Ashton under Hill Open Gardens

Our 2018 Open Gardens Weekend

A near record number of visitors enjoyed two days of sunshine

In 2018 over 1200 garden enthusiasts came to Ashton to browse around the 24 well-tended gardens in our 41st Open Gardens Weekend. Visitors were able to wander in warm sunshine amongst stunning flower borders, small cottage garden plots, woodland vistas and productive vegetable gardens with Ashton's gardeners always happy to share their stories of success and, of course, disappointment!

St Barbara's Church hosted an extensive display of botanical paintings with the artist, Beth Philip, in attendance complemented by themed floral arrangements prepared by our talented flower arrangers.

As usual, our guests came not only from local towns and villages, but also from throughout the UK and even the USA. Ashton Open Gardens has a loyal following, and we are always grateful for everyone's support.

After 41 years, Ashton under Hill Open Gardens is a very well-established annual event and its success is due to the many people who make this possible: our garden owners, our catering team, our stewards, our exhibitors, our advertisers, stallholders and all the many helpers on the day. Thanks to them, and our faithful visitors, this was one of the most successful events in recent years.

Some feedback from our visitors in 2018:

"We were so impressed with the brilliant organisation and would like you to pass our thanks to everybody concerned. To the committee, those who provided refreshment at the many venues, the sellers, the lady who drove the bus and the lavatory lady, and the garden owners we send congratulations as we look forward to 2019!"

"Our members thoroughly enjoyed the Open Gardens and thought the gardens were beautiful...the way the Village arranged for their needs to be met was really appreciated."

"We had a fabulous day, enjoyed every minute!"
